Prof. Dr. Francis Verpoort

Francis Verpoort (1963, Belgium) received his DPhil from Ghent University in 1996. In 1998, he became a full professor at the same university. In 2004, he founded a spin-off company of Ghent University based on (latent) ruthenium olefin metathesis catalysts. In 2008, he became an editor of Applied Organometallic Chemistry. Currently, next to full professor of Ghent University, he is a chair professor at State Key Laboratory of Advanced Technology for Materials Synthesis and Processing (Wuhan University of Technology) and Director of Laboratory of Organometallics, Catalysis and Ordered Materials (LOCOM) (Wuhan University of Technology). Recently, he has been appointed as “Expert of the State” in the frame of “Thousand Talents” program, PR China. In 2015 he was selected as High level Expert of the Russian Federation.His main research interests concern the structure and mechanisms of organometallic material chemistry, homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysts, MOFs and MOPs, water splitting, olefin metathesis and its applications, CO2 conversion, inorganic and organic polymers.

Prof. Dr. Chih-Ming Kao

Jimmy (C. M.) Kao serves as a Distinguished Professor with the Institute of Environmental Engineering at National Sun Yat-Sen University, Kaohsiung, Taiwan. He received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in civil and environmental engineering from North Carolina State University, Raleigh, NC, USA, in 1989 and 1993, respectively. Prof. Kao has twenty years of experience as a researcher and environmental engineer in water quality modeling, watershed management, soil and groundwater remediation, site characterization, wastewater treatment, disaster investigation, and risk assessment. Prof. Kao is active in many professional organizations. He is a Fellow Member of American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), a Fellow Member of American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), a Registered Professional Engineer in the branch of Civil Engineering, a Certified Ground Water Professional, and a Professional Hydrologist in the United States. He is also a Diplomate of the American Academy of Environmental Engineers and Diplomate of American Academy of Water Resources Engineers. He serves as an Executive Committee Member of the Taiwan Association of Soil and Groundwater Environmental Protection, Taiwan Environmental Engineering Association, Taiwan Water Resources Association, Taiwan Water Supply Association, Save River Alliance, and Taiwan Wetland Protection Association, and so forth. Prof. Kao also serves as an Executive Committee Member of many governmental agencies including Environmental Impact Assessment Committee of several local governments, Professor Promotion Evaluation Group of Ministry of Education, Engineering Project Auditing and Assessment Office of Taiwan EPA, and Soil and Groundwater Remediation Fund, and so forth. Prof. Kao received the Distinguished Researcher Award from Taiwan National Science Council in January 2012, which is the most important research award in Taiwan. He is also the receiver of the Distinguished Engineer Professor Award from Chinese Institute of Engineers in 2012.

Prof. Dr. Patrick Wang

Professor of Northeastern University, Boston, ECNU, Shanghai and NTUST, Taipei

Patrick S. P. Wang, Fellow of IAPR, ISIBM and WASE, and IETI Distinguished Fellow, has been tenured full professor of Computer and Information Science at Northeastern University, USA, Shanghai East China Normal University Zi- Jiang Visiting Chair Professor, research consultant at MIT Sloan School, and adjunct faculty of computer science at Harvard University. He received PhD in C.S. from Oregon State University, M.S. in I.C.S. from Georgia Institute of Technology, M.S.E.E. from National Taiwan University and B.S.E.E. from National Chiao Tung University (Hsin-Chu campus, Taiwan). As IEEE and ISIBM Distinguished Achievement Awardee, Dr. Wang was on the faculty at University of Oregon and Boston University, and senior researcher at Southern Bell, GTE Labs and Wang Labs prior to his present position. Dr. Wang was Otto-Von-Guericke Distinguished Guest Professor of Magdeburg University, Germany, and iCORE (Informatics Circle of Research Excellence) visiting professor of University of Calgary, Canada, Honorary Advisor Professor for China’s Sichuan University, Xiamen University, and Guangxi Normal University, Guilin, Guangxi. In addition to his research experience at MIT AI Lab, Dr. Wang has been visiting professor and invited to give lectures, do research and present papers in a number of countries from Europe, Asia and many universities and industries in the U.S.A. and Canada. Dr. Wang has published over 200 technical papers and 26 books in Pattern Recognition, A.I. and Imaging Technologies and has 3 OCR patents by US and Europe Patent Bureaus. Prof. Dr. Yiu-ming CHEUNG

Professor of Hong Kong Baptist University, Hong Kong

Yiu-ming Cheung is a Full Professor of Department of Computer Science at Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU), Hong Kong. He received PhD degree from Department of Computer Science and Engineering at The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2000, and then joined the Department of Computer Science at HKBU in 2001. He is currently the Associate Programme Director of MSc in Advanced Information Systems, and the Associate Director of Institute of Computational and Theoretical Studies in HKBU. He is an IET / IEE Fellow and BCS Fellow, and the “Chu Tian Scholars (楚天學者)” in China.
His research interests include Computational Intelligence, Statistical Learning, Intelligent Visual Computing, Pattern Recognition, Data Mining, and Watermarking. He is the Founding Chairman of IEEE (Hong Kong) Computational Intelligence Chapter and the current Vice Chair of Technical Committee on Intelligent Informatics (TCII) of IEEE Computer Society. He has served in various capacities (e.g., Organizing Committee Chair, Program Committee Chair, Financial Chair, etc.) at several top-tier international conferences, including IEEE-sponsored WCCI’2016, ICDM2006, WI-IAT2006 & 2012. Currently, he is the Associate Editor of several prestigious journals, including IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks and Learning Systems, Pattern Recognition, Knowledge and Information Systems (KAIS), and International Journal of Pattern Recognition and Artificial Intelligence, as well as the Guest Co-editor in several international journals.

 

Prof. Dr. Yuping Wang

Professor of Xidian University, Xi'an

Yuping Wang received the Ph.D. degree from the School of Science, Xi’an Jiaotong University, Shaanxi, China. Currently, he is a Full Professor with School of Computer Science and Technology, Xidian University, Xi’an, China, Senior Member of IEEE, and Vice Chairman of Economic Mathematics and Management Mathematics Society of China. His research interests include evolutionary computation, data mining, and optimization. He has published over 100 journal papers of which some papers were published in famous journals including IEEE Transactions on Evolutionary Computation and IEEE Transactions on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics-A. He is the Guest Coeditor and editorial board member of several international journals.

 

Prof. Dr. Ismail Rakip Karas

Professor of Karabuk University, Turkey

Dr Ismail Rakip Karas is an Assoc Professor of Computer Engineering Department at Karabuk University, Turkey. He received his BSc degree from Selcuk University, MSc degree from Gebze Institute of Technology, and PhD degree from GIS/RS program of Yildiz Technical University, in 1997, 2001 and 2007 respectively, three of them from Geomatics Engineering Department. In 2002, he involved in a GIS project as a Graduate Student Intern at Forest Engineering Department, Oregon State University, USA. During the summer of 2014, and summer of 2010 he was a Visiting Researcher in 3D GIS Research Lab, Faculty of Geoinformation Science and Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. Between 2000-2009, he was a Research Assistant at Geomatics Engineering Department of Gebze Institute of Technology. Since 2009, he has been in Karabuk University and taught undergraduate and graduate classes in Geoinformation and Computer Sciences. He has also been carrying out as Head of Computer Science Division of Department and Director of Safranbolu Vocational School of Karabuk University. Dr. Ismail Rakip Karas is the author of many international and Turkish publications and papers on various areas of Geoinformation Science. He is in the editorial board of International Geoinformatics Research and Development Journal, American Journal of Geographic Information System, and some others. Also reviewer of some international journals such as Sensors, Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering & Computer Sciences, and International Journal of Environmental Research. He is also committee member of some of conferences such as “Int’l Conference on Digital Image Processing” and “3D GeoInformation Conference”. He has involved in several projects and been supervisor and examiner of many Msc and PhD students. Prof. Dr. Coenraad Labuschagne

Coenraad Labuschagne is a Professor of Quantitative Finance at the University of Johannesburg, South Africa. Previously, he was a Professor of Computational and Applied Mathematics at the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa. He holds a PhD (Mathematics) from North West University, South Africa. His research areas include quantitative finance, risk and financial management, probability theory, and functional analysis. He has supervised numerous masters and doctoral students. Coenraad has over 50 journal publications, most of which are in Thompson Reuters, and over 25 conference proceedings publications. He  is also a member of the editorial boards of three international journals and has guest co-edited special issues of the Journal of Risk and Financial Management (MDPI) and Mathematics in Finance.

Dr. Sak Segkhoonthod holds PhD (Electronics Systems Engineering), 1996, from Essex University, United Kingdom. He is a President and CEO of Electronic Government Agency, Ministry of Information and Communication Technology, Thailand. His important projects at country level include Prime Minister Operations Center (PMOC), Government Data Exchange (GDX), Certification Authorities (CA-ICT) of the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology.

 

Prof. Dr. Worawet Suwanrada

Prof. Dr. Worawet Suwanrada, Dean of Faculty of Economics, Chulalongkorn University, Thailand

Worawet Suwanrada holds a PhD (Economis), 2000, from Osaka University, Japan. He is a Dean of Faculty of Economics and University Distinguished Professor of Economics at Chulalongkorn University, Thailand. He was a former dean of College of Population and Studies, Chulalongkorn University, his outstanding research on aging society in Thailand, and economic losses of road accidents in Thailand. His research areas include applied economics and public policy, financial econometrics, economics of pension. He is also a committee member of Pension System Integration Committee, Ministry of Finance, and a commissioner o National Older persons Commission.

Prof. Dr. Marc Paolella

Prof. Dr. Marc Paolella is the Full Professor of Department of Banking and Finance of University of Zurich (from January 2007), as well as the Faulty Member of Swiss Finance Institute (from 2006), and Adjunct Professor of Faculty of Economics of Chiang Mai University (from January 2011). He was the Visiting Professor of Department of Econometrics, University of Geneva (2008-2012), and Director of Institute of Statistics and Econometrics of Kiel University (2003). He is the Associate Editor of Journal of the Royal Statistical Society, Series A (from January 2015), Operations Research and Decisions (from 2011) and Economics (since 2008). He is the IETI Fellow and Executive Committee Member of IETI. Prof. Dr. Marc Paolella's research interests include studying the Time Series Analysis, Computational Statistics, GARCH and Risk Prediction.

 

Senior Lecturer Dr. Laurent Pauwels

Senior Lecturer, Department of Business Analytics, University of Sydney, Australia

Laurent Pauwels received his PhD in International Economics jointly from the Graduate Institute and the University of Geneva. His main areas of research include inference in time series and panel models, forecast combinations, international macroeconomics, structural change and economic networks. His interests also include monetary policy and exchange rate issues in China and other economies. During his doctoral studies, Laurent held positions at the European Central Bank (ECB) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE). Before joining the University of Sydney, he worked as an economist in the research department of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA), conducting research and monitoring both economies of Mainland China and Hong Kong.

Prof. Wande Wei

As a full professor and also an M.A. supervisor in cross-cultural communication and English language, Wande Wei has been actively involved in cultural exchanges and translation studies for over 30 years. He is the former director of the Graduate English Teaching Department in the School of Foreign Languages of Wuhan University of Technology. He is also a member of the Higher Education Association for Foreign Language Teaching and Researching. He has successfully published more than 25 academic research papers, and accomplished 20 research projects as well as 15 textbooks mainly concerning cultural and translation studies. He has also held visiting professorships in two universities in the USA, giving a variety of cultural lectures to local students and faculties. Philip Hans Franses is the Desiderius Erasmus Distinguished Professor of Applied Econometrics and Professor of Marketing Research at the Erasmus School of Economics (ESE). Professor Franses has been consistently ranked among the top economists in the Netherlands since 1998 by the high-profile ranking Dutch Economists Top 40. His articles and books have contributed to the internationalisation of econometrics in the Netherlands and to the establishment of the Erasmus School of Economics' Econometric Institute. Professor Franses' research interests span a number of different areas, in particular the development of new models that enable more accurate forecasts with a specific focus on seasonal time series and marketing metrics. His interests also include economic growth and business cycles as well as the Euro. Professor Franses' research aims to address practical questions with answers substantiated by modern econometric models – models often newly developed by him and his team. His articles have appeared in all the leading scientific journals and books as well as in national and international mainstream media. He regularly takes part in the Dutch BNR news radio panel. Companies and institutions throughout the Netherlands and abroad have regularly recruited him as an advisor on a range of issues. Professor Franses was elected in 2011 as member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences. In 2012 he received an honorary doctorate from Chiang Mai University in Thailand.

Jörg Osterrieder currently serves as member of the Management Committee for the European academic network "Mathematics for Industry" and is also involved in the Fintech strategy of the School of Engineering. Having previously worked as an executive director at Goldman Sachs and Merrill Lynch, Jörg Osterrieder is now active at the intersection of academia and industry, focusing on the transfer of research results to the financial services sector in order to implement practical solutions. She worked as a post-doctor from 2009 to 2010 at the Advanced Cyber-Infrastructure Laboratory, ECE Department at the University of New Mexico, USA. Her current research focus areas include information retrieval, network services and natural language process. In particular, her project and publications areas cover web information retrieval and social networks. Her work is being supported by the NSFC, NSF of Hubei and Education Office of Hubei. Dr. Peng is the recipient of the second Hubei Province Prize for Natural Sciences in 2009. Jimmy (C. M.) Kao serves as a Distinguished Professor with the Institute of Environmental Engineering at National Sun Yat-Sen University, Kaohsiung, Taiwan. He received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in civil and environmental engineering from North Carolina State University, Raleigh, NC, USA, in 1989 and 1993, respectively. Prof. Kao has twenty years of experience as a researcher and environmental engineer in water quality modeling, watershed management, soil and groundwater remediation, site characterization, wastewater treatment, disaster investigation, and risk assessment. Prof. Kao is active in many professional organizations. He is a Fellow Member of American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), a Fellow Member of American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), a Registered Professional Engineer in the branch of Civil Engineering, a Certified Ground Water Professional, and a Professional Hydrologist in the United States. He is also a Diplomate of the American Academy of Environmental Engineers and Diplomate of American Academy of Water Resources Engineers. He serves as an Executive Committee Member of the Taiwan Association of Soil and Groundwater Environmental Protection, Taiwan Environmental Engineering Association, Taiwan Water Resources Association, Taiwan Water Supply Association, Save River Alliance, and Taiwan Wetland Protection Association, and so forth. Prof. Kao also serves as an Executive Committee Member of many governmental agencies including Environmental Impact Assessment Committee of several local governments, Professor Promotion Evaluation Group of Ministry of Education, Engineering Project Auditing and Assessment Office of Taiwan EPA, and Soil and Groundwater Remediation Fund, and so forth. Currently, next to full professor of Ghent University, he is a chair professor at State Key Laboratory of Advanced Technology for Materials Synthesis and Processing (Wuhan University of Technology) and Director of Laboratory of Organometallics, Catalysis and Ordered Materials (LOCOM) (Wuhan University of Technology). Recently, he has been appointed as “Expert of the State” in the frame of “Thousand Talents” program, PR China. Somboon Chaemchuen (1984, Thailand) received his PhD in Chemical Engineering from Chulalongkorn University, Thailand, in 2011 under the supervision of Dr Suphot Phatanasri. In 2010, he went to Aachen University, Germany, for research collaboration with Prof. Wolfgang F. Holderich. He has recently obtained a research position (Associate Professor) in the group of Prof. Francis Verpoort at the State Key Laboratory of Advanced Technology for Materials Synthesis and Processing, Wuhan University of Technology. His current research interests are the preparation of metal–organic framework.

 

Dr. Donghai Wu

Hohai University, Nanjing

Wu Donghai, male, born in 1982. He graduated from Harbin Institute of Technology in 2011 with a doctorate in Environmental Science and Engineering. In 2012, he started to teach at the School of Environmental of Hohai University. His research interests are water pollution control theory and technology applications. His research is supported by the National Natural Science Foundation, the Natural Science Foundation of Jiangsu Province, Chinese Postdoctoral Science Fund and Branch Project of Henan Province Science and Technology Research Fund.
