IETI Director and Senior Member, Eddie Y.K. Ng has been nominated as ASME Fellow in recognition of his professional endeavours, excellence and commitment to the industry development.
About Dr. Eddie Y.K. Ng:
RESEARCH:
His expertise is in commercial and in-house developed software to perform numerical simulation in the biomedical engineering (BME), thermal-fluid and health-related diagnosis fields.
He has been an editorial board member for 10 journals and reviewer for 30 journals. He was Editor-in-Chief for 2 ISI-journals which were captured by the JCR within 2-years of their inauguration. He is an expert research funding reviewer for many funding agencies worldwide.
EDUCATION:
He has been recognized internationally for academic excellence. He received numerous best papers, service awards and has directly educated over 9000 undergraduates, supervised 5 RFs, graduated 23 PhD and 26 Master students since 1993.
He is coordinating the Enhanced-Industrial-Internship (comprising 700 intern-placements yearly).
INDUSTRIAL:
He was awarded the prestigious SPRING-Singapore Merit Award for his innovation in thermal imagers to screen SARS fever as well as contributions to the Singapore Standardization Program.
Being a co-inventor of 3 US patents on software classifiers to identify the different stages of breast cancer development in iTBra-system, he was accoladed with equity in a listed company. His ongoing work on non-contact screening for carotid artery stenosis and superficial vein-finder has resulted in 3 filing patents. He currently serves as a breast cancer project consultant for start-ups in Bangalore and Kazakhstan University.
He has notable citations in the field of infrared physics & technology in BME research. His work on human eye biomechanics & burn injury thermal physics has seen applications in hospitals and industries.
PROFESSIONAL SERVICE:
As an active grassroots leader in civil society, he received a 15 years Long Service Award, Medallion & Certificate of Appreciation cum Commendation Award for Community Service from Singapore PM Office.
As a fellow of ASME, he has demonstrated significant and sustained contributions to the advancement of engineering, such as leadership in professional society activities & peer recognition. His experience in the publication committee for ASME Singapore Section and as an Editor-in-Chief for 2 ISI-journals is another example. He is an acclaimed researcher in the engineering profession and has been invited as keynote speakers & session chair for numerous international conferences such as IFBME, ASME, IEEE, SPIE, AIAA, ICBEB, ICMMB, and the IETI. He has also refereed technical papers and PhD external examinations. Fifteen of his papers have been adopted as references in Singapore Standard (SS 582: 2013) and ISO/IEC 80601-2-59: 2017. Since 2011 and he has served as a panel member for the Singapore Biomedical and Health Standards Committee. These substantiates his international standing as a scholar as well as his professional expertise in line with standards set by leading scholars in the field.
Finally, Dr. Ng has been and will continue to be a positive influence and reliable resource to the IETI. As an admirable and invaluable member of the BME family and the academic community for the past 30 years, he has contributed many important breakthroughs to the field; and last but not least, cultivated the passion of his students for BME with his knowledge and guidance.
