T.A. Aliev was the main organizer and until 1976 the head of the Laboratory of Electronic Computing Machines set up in Azerbaijan in 1958-1960 that played a crucial part in the development of computer science in Azerbaijan. He was a member of the Board of the Society of Computer Science and Computer Engineering, a member of the expert council on computer science, computer engineering and cybernetics of the Soviet Union. T.A. Aliev is the author of a number of fundamental works at the intersection of cybernetics, computer science and physics.
T.A. Aliev defended his Candidate’s dissertation under the guidance of the head of department of the Bauman Moscow State Technical University Prof. V.V. Solodovnikov in 1966, his doctoral dissertation in “Technical cybernetics and information theory” in 1977. In 1983 he was elected a Corresponding Member, and in 2001 - a Full Member of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences.
In 1982, he was appointed Deputy Director for Science at the Institute of Cybernetics. Since 1984, he has been working as a head of department at the Azerbaijan University of Architecture and Construction on an honorary basis. In 1985 he was awarded the title of professor. Since 1988, T.A. Aliev has been working as Director of the Institute of Cybernetics (now Institute of Control Systems).
In 1993-1998 he was the chairman of the expert council of the Higher Attestation Commission under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Since 1994, he has been a UNESCO expert in computer science.
In 1997-2001 he was the Academician Secretary of the Division of PMTS of ANAS. In 2004 he was awarded the Order of Glory (Shohret) of the Republic of Azerbaijan. In 2008-2015 he was a member of the Presidium of the Higher Attestation Commission. In 2009 he was awarded the title of Honored Science Worker. In the recent years, under T.A. Aliev’s guidance, a new generation robust noise monitoring system was introduced at 300 facilities Bibi-Heybat oil and gas production department, providing remote diagnostics and control of downhole oil production equipment and allowing to double their profitability.
T.A. Aliev has been a member of the editorial board of the journal Mechatronics, Automation, Management published in Russia (Moscow) since 2013 and of the journal Problems of Control and Informatics published in Ukraine (Kyiv).
In 2015, he was awarded the N. Tusi Prize. Since 2015 he was the chairman of the D 01.121 Dissertation Council at the Institute of Control Systems. In 2018, he was awarded the International Academician Azad Mirzajanzade Silver Medal.
T.A. Aliev is the author of 587 publications, many of them in WoS indexed journals, as well as 3 monographs published by Springer in 2003, 2007 and the most recent one, Noise control of the Beginning and Development Dynamics of Accidents (201 p.), in 2019. T.A. Aliev is the author of 27 monographs and 109 patents, including 37 Eurasian patents.
He has been academic advisor of 37 Candidates of Sciences (PhD) and 12 Doctors of Science.
