Sir Charles Richard Arthur Catlow FRS FRSCFInstP is a British chemist and professor with a joint appointment atUniversity College London and Cardiff University. He is also the PI of the‘Optimising, Predicting and Designing New Catalysts’ theme of the UK CatalysisHub based at the Research Complex at Harwell (RCaH). Professor Richard Catlowhas worked for over thirty years in the field of computational and experimentalstudies of complex inorganic materials, pioneering a wide range of applicationsof computational techniques in solid state chemistry including microporous andoxide catalysts, ionic conductors, electronic ceramics and silicateminerals. His group has beeninstrumental in technique and code development, including recent work onembedded cluster methodologies for application to the study of catalyticreactions. Professor Catlow’s research has led to over 1080 publications, andin 2004 he was elected to Fellowship of the Royal Society for pioneering thedevelopment and application of computer modelling in solid state and materialschemistry. He is currently Professor of Computational and Materials Chemistryat UCL and jointly Professor of Catalytic and Computational Chemistry atCardiff University. Richard is also Foreign Secretary and Vice President of theRoyal Society. And since 2021 as President of the InterAcademy Partnership(IAP).
